Laser-BUG
Automatic weldseam guidance and inspection

Sensor controlled welding robot for straight and curved seams.

•  constantly high weldseam quality
•  simple handling, programmable
•  override, to optimize parameters
•  automatically stop at end of seam

Continuous recorded data:
•  weldseam width, weldseam depth, weldseam            center
•  flank angle, root layer

The MEL-Laser-BUG is an association development of BUGO systems, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. and MEL Mikroelektronik, Eching, Germany. Bugo systems delivered the guideway system and the drive assembly; MEL contributed the scanner system and the software.
The Laser-BUG is made ready for all joint geometries. By choice of a work program (additional parameter adjustments are enabled) the welding robot can be adapted quickly to a new task. The LCD display shows the course of the joint and the current parameters of the power transmission.

The laser scanner takes the position control of the welding tip and the pendulum drive.
The parameters, as pendulum width, pendulum speed or feed rate are alterable during welding process.

To toggle manual and automatic navigation is possible at any time without interruption.
The Laser-BUG is working totally independent of position. Application software for fillet weld and butt weld are already preset ex factory. Further own routines can be simply added by "teach-in". On the first weld cycle, the laser scanner saves the complete geometry of the weldseam. Whenever required, the course - including parameters - can be retraced "from memory".
As sensor, a M2DW with cooling plate is applied. This sensor can stand temperatures up to 500°C (932°F) and does not include any mechanically operating parts. For the tough use under welding conditions, this unit is most suitable. Welding splatters and smoke during welding process do not interfere this optical sensor. Mirror-like or rusty sheet metal, cut smooth or fray seam borders are measured without problems.

Optional, for the welding of tanks on turning devices, there is a version with cross slide available.

For over 20 years, MEL is the most innovative producer of intelligent sensors. Worldwide there are several thousand laser scanners in action. Take advantage of our experience.
We solve problems of measurement and sensor technology. For it, we build hard- and software as turnkey solution.
